Waiting Is the Hardest Part
This was my potential additions list in early January. It somehow got stuck in the Substack queue. The prices are from Jan 10th. There has been a “Trump bump” in a few of the stocks.
I will wait until earnings season is over, but these are my most likely choices.
The list starts industrial cyclicals like Dow or an auto parts idea. There are plenty of names in consumer cyclicals like retail, leisure equipment, or travel. There are still defensive stocks in utilities and healthcare.
There are always specials situations like Hasbro or Phillips 66, or big caps like Nike or Kimberly- Clark
Roundup the usual suspects. Either I have been very thorough, or I am very boring:
Dow - $39 - or other chemical/materials (missed bad 1/28)
Magna International - MGA - $40 or other industrial (2/14 pre)
Hasbro - HAS - $57 - can I understand video games? (2/20 pre)
Etsy - ETSY - $56 - or other retail (2/19 report)
Polaris - PII - $54 - or other consumer cyclical (missed 1/28)
Vail Resorts - MTN - $179 - or other travel/gaming (3/10 post)
Coty - COTY - $7 - or other consumer non-cyclical (2/10 post)
Smith & Nephew - SNN - $24 - or other healthcare (2/25 pre)
Essential Utilities - WTRG - $35 - or other utilities (2/26 post)
Phillips 66 - PSX - $116 - refining a special defensive situation, also part chemicals (1/31 during)
Nike - NKE - $71 - Ackman a new buyer (3/21 post)
Kimberly-Clark - KMB - $127 - boring like Sysco (missed 1/28)
Through today, Dow, Polaris, and Kimberly have missed. So far waiting has been easy.
