Lurking - Big Cap Only
There are about 50 big cap names I keep an eye on. There are about 500 US headquartered companies with market caps over $10 billion. The cutoff is artificial, but reasonable.
Right now my Top 20 Model has 5 big caps - Tyson, Kinder Morgan, Halliburton, Corteva, and Nutrien. In a perfect world, that is a few too many. I think in a world that was 30% off its high, I might not own a single big cap. With the market at extended valuations, I am willing “play some defense”. I could substitute Mosaic for Nutrien, and Helmrich & Payne for Halliburton, but for now I will stick with the big caps. There is no calculation to make this assessment, it is purely a judgement call.
