Getting Organized - Energy
I have almost always been able to find a good oil services pick, but now I am left with Halliburton - HAL - $31. The little guys cannot compete, and their balance sheet’s stink. HAL has got more technology than Wall Street perceives.
HAL can make $5.00/share again, and should sell at 12x, so the target is $60. I have never been a fan of the big integrated oils, but can always find a refiner I like. Coal, or natural gas, is worth considering, but I missed uranium. AM is a unique company.
Energy is 8% of mid-cap indices, but I put the pipelines in Utilities. I could certainly add another stock from this group.
My energy favorites in order:
Helmerich & Payne - HP - best driller, did not like the recent acquisition
Antero Midstream - AM - $23 - cash equivalent, better than a utility
Peabody - BTU - $23 - we still need coal, Trump stock
Civitas - CIVI - $62- smart producers in the Permian and Colorado
Phillips 66 - PSX- $135 - great refiner, really a special situation stock
Devon Energy - DVN - $54 - natural gas superstar
Calumet - CLMT - $ - specialty refiner, need to learn more
Oceaneering Int. - OII - $27 - missed at $5, $10, $15, cannot chase
Magnolia - MGY - $25 - sticking to the variable dividend
Cameco - CCJ - $43 - uranium superstar
