Getting Organized - Communications Services
This is a tiny sector, 2%, in mid-cap indices, but it has some interesting stocks.
My favorite is Nexstar. A smart guy has built a unique network of local TV stations and is on a mission to prove that advertisers should still care. NXST is as much a religion, as a investment idea. Lots of cash flow and buybacks, and an interesting attempt to build a news network, NewsNation, and a unique network for local stations called CW.
My favorite communications services stocks in order:
Ziff Davis - ZD - $49 - are these just dying websites, or is their a plan?
Marcus - MCS - $14 - a well run small cap movie theater operator
Cable One - CABO - $354 - internet, not cable, is supposed to be the story
Magnite - MGNI - $14 - unique guy trying to find a niche, very difficult to understand
Verizon - VZ - $42 - I wish they were doing better with business customers
Madison Square - Sports - MSGS - $208 - the value is there, but will Dolan sell?
Manchester United - MANU - $17 - same as above, the value is there, playing bad
Madison Square - Entertainment - MSGE - $42 - tricky
IAC - IAC - $52 - MGM + strange collection of internet business
Stagewell - STGW - $7 - run by an aging Clinton guy, quirky
Interpublic - IPG - $33 - I get no inspiration from their strategy
Wiley John - WLY - $48 - I continue to worry about the academic scandal
Scholastic - SCHL - $32 - still trying to make book fairs work, just will not die
Take Two Interactive - TTWO - $161 - video games, I like Hasbro better
Iridium - IRDM - $26 - will Musk just kill everyone in the satellite business
Warner Music - WMG - $28 - still controlled by Russian oligarch
Comcast - CMCSA - $39 - why do all the value guys own this mess?
Walt Disney -DIS - $90 - what comes after the streaming disaster?
